Who would read that? I am 100% certain that not a single one of you read all those letters. BORING!!! AND whenever you make an error, the program makes a sound like a computerized sheep with no emotion. It goes BAA. for each incorrect letter that you type and there's a timer. When you finish it flashes a sign that shares your results: Congratulations you did that in 84.67 seconds! Unfortunately, you had 19 errors. The best I ever did on that particular exercise was 60 some odd seconds with 6 errors. BAA BAA BAA BAA BAA BAA I did accomplish a time that I don't remember that only had two errors, followed by a time that included 19 errors. I think my fingers got off the home row.

I gave up for now. I said to myself do something that feels good. So, I started writing about my frustration and created an opportunity to feel successful. Yup, I hunt and peck every single one of these blogs and until just a few weeks ago, I was hunting and pecking all of these blogs on my iPhone. It is so mush easier to hunt and peck on an actual keyboard. Ahhhhh!!!!
SIGH. You can almost feel the weight of that sigh can't you? That's because I just decided to resume the typing exercises. I am determined!!! Keri is right, in the long run, it will make typing my blog, my future speeches and future books much faster.
BAA for now,...

Keri is right on this one! You need to do these drills to make a new memory groove in your brain. Couple of pointers here. One, try not to look at the keyboard when you type. Two, if you are typing on a laptop. Look at the F key. Does it have a dimple on it? My iPad doesn't have it. That keeps your fingers positioned. There are 2 keys between your left pointer finger, F, and right pointer finger "J". Find "home" with left pointer finger and position your right hand accordingly. Try doing a drill of the alphabet. You can do that with your eyes closed, when you memorize the key board. Close your eyes, memorize the keyboard, place fingers on any flat surface and practice which finger you use for each one. My kids are thankful now that I made them take typing in HS. Practice is key. It will become like riding a bike. I used to type 140 words a minute (yes, actually). No, zero, mistakes, when I worked for the newspaper in Forest Grove way back in the dark ages. I typed 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I learned to have perfect posture when I typed or my back would hurt. Now I've dropped down to 90-95 words and 0-1 mistake. I hate typing on this iPad because the keyboard is so small. If I had to type more I would get a Bluetooth keyboard. Still I do type pretty fast because I instinctively know where all the keys are. That makes a huge difference. Practice, practice, practice!
