Still Learning

I love the little things in life that shine a new light on a situation. I love the opportunity to change my perspective. I love awareness and expansion. All of these things are true and the thing that occurred that brought this thought to my mind is a funny little situation between Garrison and I.

As you know he has been in town visiting for the holidays. We set him up in the guest room that was his room when he lived with us most recently, as an adult. While looking through the stuff in there, he found my red fuzzy Viking hat that I got from the Warrior Dash I ran back in September.

Garrison came out into the hall wearing the Viking hat and announced that he was going to be taking it back to Oklahoma because the mascot of his school is a Viking. He said he was going to wear the hat to games and stuff. I responded, "Oh I can't wait to see that".

He looked at me a little confused and said, "What do you mean? You can see me right now?" I clarified, "I mean I can't wait to see it on Facebook in real life". Garrison said, "This is real life mom, FB is not real". I meant a real life situation.

Of course I realize that FB is not real life and that we are experiencing real life in this moment, but this situation created a new level of awareness for me. On one hand, FB does provide a glimpse into the lives of our friends and loved ones, near and far, however it really only provides a glimpse of what they are willing to share, but really I guess that's always the case.

How well do we really know those closest to us? Only as well as they allow us. Maybe an even better question is, how well do we really know ourselves? As for me, I know myself better than I used to and I am still learning.

My hope is that I will continue to grow and expand my ideas and concepts about life. In this process of life I hope I am evergreen and growing.

a,s,d,f

If you can believe it or not this blogger is just now learning to actually type. It is frustrating as HELL!!!! I, let me correct that, Keri found a little program online that teaches you how to type by giving you exercises to do. So, far I have practiced the left hand home row which consists of a,s,d and f. Do you know how few words you can type with those four letters? That would be an extremely boring blog.

aa adf fds ad dsa ff sd sa fad fs sad df ds daf dd afd ffs sads dafs sfd sass asd ss sfa fd da ffs saf ffd ssa aaf sda fa ssd ssf dsf a fsa fda dds ads sf aas fads das dda as

Who would read that? I am 100% certain that not a single one of you read all those letters. BORING!!! AND whenever you make an error, the program makes a sound like a computerized sheep with no emotion. It goes BAA. for each incorrect letter that you type and there's a timer. When you finish it flashes a sign that shares your results: Congratulations you did that in 84.67 seconds! Unfortunately, you had 19 errors. The best I ever did on that particular exercise was 60 some odd seconds with 6 errors. BAA BAA BAA BAA BAA BAA I did accomplish a time that I don't remember that only had two errors, followed by a time that included 19 errors. I think my fingers got off the home row.20140105-183246.jpg

I gave up for now. I said to myself do something that feels good. So, I started writing about my frustration and created an opportunity to feel successful. Yup, I hunt and peck every single one of these blogs and until just a few weeks ago, I was hunting and pecking all of these blogs on my iPhone. It is so mush easier to hunt and peck on an actual keyboard. Ahhhhh!!!!

SIGH. You can almost feel the weight of that sigh can't you? That's because I just decided to resume the typing exercises. I am determined!!! Keri is right, in the long run, it will make typing my blog, my future speeches and future books much faster.

BAA for now,...

Buy the damn purse

Don't you just love giving something to someone that really needs that some thing?

Sometimes its love, sometimes its an attentive ear, and loving advice, but many times its just space to BE. Space to be whatever it is that other person needs to be, even if it makes us uncomfortable, because we want so badly for our loved ones to be happy and giving them space to feel their feelings of heart ache, confusion or sadness is really hard to watch.

Though it is hard, I believe space to BE is the best gift of all when you really love someone. When we allow space for them to BE, we are placing our faith in a bigger plan and trusting that they will be able to work it out. We are empowering them to feel their feelings and reach for something better.

But there are SOMETIMES when the something someone needs,...Uh, yes! I said "needs", is a new purse, and that "someone" that "needed" a new purse was me!

Since my recent toe dipping in the girl water I've been carrying a little navy Coach make-up bag as a purse and calling it a clutch. It was great at first. My wallet, Chapstick, lipstick, keys and phone all fit in it, pretty tightly, but it worked. Until I discovered I'm too absent minded and in the moment to keep up with a clutch. I walked off without it a couple times already.

So, you can see why I "needed" a new purse. And guess what,... I got a new purse - I got a new purse - I got a new purse. You're imagining me skipping and singing right?

It was a little out of the budget my partner and I agreed to for the shopping trip, but my friend and I thought it was the perfect new purse. It was just a little bit bigger than what I had with the "clutch", it had 2 zipper compartments, an outside pocket and a handy shoulder strap.

The only problem was the budget. I said to my friend, It wasn't meant to be,...And she suggested we have them hold it. So, we did and went about our day.

After we had parted ways my friend sent me this text message: Buy the purse!!!! I will give you the difference and call it your b-day!!!!!!! Don't say a word......just DO IT!!!!!

I felt a little teary all of a sudden and texted back: You're going to make this girlie girl cry.

Her response: Lol.......whatever!!! Cry all you want.....but buy that damn purse!!!!!! Lol

So, to answer the question, don't you just love giving something to someone that really needs that some thing, the answer is yes.

Sometimes it's love and understand with a little space to learn and grow and sometimes it's a purse.
