Permission Granted

I've noticed lately as I'm focusing on all the positive and wonderful things in life that everything I want is falling right into place. This observation has created a new favorite thing for me to say. Yes, I will share this new thing with you. PLUS, as a bonus I will also grant you permission to use my new favorite thing to say in your daily life, BUT before I do I'm going to share with you what I used to say.

What I used to say and I can't say that I won't ever say it again, it's just that there's been a shift, so I'm saying it less. So, what I used to say is, "It is what it is". I even carved the word IS in stone to make a point. I believe this was the phase of my life in which I was coming to terms with my life and what I had created with a less mindful purpose. I was accepting what I had created for myself. It is what it is.

It's a good phrase for acceptance. I started saying it shortly after my first work conference where we were encouraged to share our vision for our lives as individuals. Checking in with ourselves to see if our mission in life was lining up with the work we were doing. We were instructed to write out our mission statement for our lives. At that point in the conference I realized I didn't have a mission and I was not living my life on purpose. I began to cry, right there in the middle of the conference. I decided right then, I wanted to live a purposeful life. What would my purpose be? I wanted to have a positive affect on others. I didn't know exactly how. I thought, at that time, it would be through my art and at that time my art form was painting.

I followed that path for a while. I had my paintings up in a couple galleries in the Portland area. I displayed several of my dog portraits in Keri's doggie day care and it felt amazing for other people to want to spend their money on my paintings. I sold many paintings and I can't tell you how excited it made me feel. I'd jump around with a zest for life that you often only see from a five year old when they discover they get to do one of their favorite activities. Soon though, I discovered that exhilaration was fleeting. I was becoming disenchanted with the process of creating art and trying to connect with people and have a positive affect on their lives. I still wanted to be a positive force in the world and I wasn't about to give up.

Then one day, my great idea woman suggested, Why don't you write a blog? I had only a slight idea of what a blog was when she made that suggestion. I quickly got acquainted with blogging and here I am a year later still blogging and I don't see an end in sight to the writing. I am inspired everywhere I turn. Every opportunity in my life is a chance at having a positive affect on others. I am the author of Apozitude and "It's only a matter of time" before you will find me on a stage or in front of an audience challenging others to make a shift in their lives.

Yup, that was it. My new favorite thing to say is, "It's only a matter of time". That is exactly when everything happens. Right now and if not, it's only a matter of time. Knowing what you want + getting and staying happy = all your dreams coming true. In the above equation, it's only a matter of time.

You're Lookin' at One Lucky Chick

I think it is time for me to tell you what I believe. You may be thinking isn't that what you've been doing all along? Well, maybe it is what I've been doing all along, but I want to be crystal clear. I am in my 11th month of writing this blog and it occured to me today that someone may want to know why? Why do I spend the majority of my time thinking about this blog? Thinking, writing, drawing and talking about Apozitude. Why? Well, I'll tell you why.

I spend my time doing this because I believe that in doing so I will change someones' life. Is it possible that if I bear my heart and soul on this screen writing about my biggest challenges and my greatest victories that I might be able to have a positive affect on someones' life? The undeniable answer is YES! The reason I am so certain about this is because I AM the someone whos' life has been changed.

Since I have been writing this blog I have changed tremendously. I used to live my life for others. I didn't truely know who I was because I lost myself in doing what I thought would make other people happy. The writing of this blog has caused me to ask questions of myself that have brought clarity to my life. I didn't really realize how truely lucky I was in my life. I have the most amazing people in my life. My wife, who supports me in my quest to discover me. My mom who has provided unwavering love and faith in me. My friends who challenge me and push me to be the best me I can be. Honestly though, all of these things can be said of all of these people in my life. I am one lucky chick!!!

When I told my son about the vision I had for my life he said to me, "If there is anyone out there in the world like me, I believe you will make a great motivational speaker". He said that to me when he was about 14. I had just spoken to him about building a solid foundation to live the rest of his life upon. More recently when I started this blog, I told him this was the next step in the rest of my dream being fulfilled and he said, "I'll be watching". I responded, "I'm counting on it".

I gotta say I believe the positive affects of this blog are further reaching than just myself, and that is definitely a bonus, but I love writing and really I write for myself. I actually have been writing all my life. I wrote my first poem at age seven, and I've always kept some sort of journal or diary. However, the bonus of writing this blog is that it positively affects others, and I believe with all my being that is my purpose. The reason I decided to walk this earth was to show people that they have a choice. I know this is my purpose, because not only have I written about it 5 days a week for the last 11 months, but I live it everyday of my life.

It's straight up Fun o'clock!!!!

The whole reason any of us are here is to have fun. If you are doing somethig that is not fun or interesting to you then by all means start doing something else.

Do somethig fun. Feel the love that is all around you. Laugh with your friends. Drink beer and eat pizza. Dance your ass off. Read your favorite books. Walk barefooted in the mud. Lay in the sun and feel the warmth on your skin. Walk with a bit of a strut because you know you got this!!! Feel all the amazing things you came here to feel. Love the ones you love. Smile at every being that crosses your path. Let people get in front of you. Give a compliment. Hug a baby. Pet a puppy. Paint a picture. Kiss your wife. Take a nap.

By the way, if it does not feeeeeel good, do something else.

Taking steps everyday

Do you know what it is that you crave? Do you know what it is in life that feels like this is what you were born to do? Some people don't and I was one of those people for a long time. Then one day my wife said to me, You know you could write a blog,...

She is an amazing idea woman. I feel that writing this blog is the very beginning for me. These are some of the first steps I am taking toward fulfilling my life's purpose. There have been many things before this blog that were leading me to this point, but this feels like the true beginning.

Every weekend I spend several hours of my free time writing and pouring myself into this blog. I have asked myself, is it worth it? I always answer, Yes, absolutely!! I love the idea of creating a sense of relief in the heart of another. I love the idea of someone reading this blog and feeling a smile cross their face as they identify in some way with some of the things I have been through. I love the idea of creating a feeling for someone that they are not alone. I love the feeling that something I write could open someone's eyes to seeing something that makes their live a little easier.

This is what I was born to do and I am feeling fulfilled. I am content with where I am now and I am eager for more. Is the sacrifice I make of my free time worth these feelings of living a life fulfilled. Absolutely!!! It is my vow to myself to continue to live a life feeling fulfilled.
